Vacation Watch

BASIC SAFETY FOR AN ENJOYABLE TRIP

AVOID HAVING YOUR HOUSE LOOK EMPTY. See below.

  • ALARMS:  Should be “Permitted” with the City of Houston, activated/”ON” and “Monitored” by a service.
  • UPDATE your GATEHOUSE ACCOUNT!!   Enter ALL anticipated services, that will be coming to your home while you are gone. Then go to the HOA website, click on “GateHouse” then “GateHouse Trainings” to learn how to activate receiving a text message when they are granted entry.
  • LIGHTS:  Place them on various timers throughout the house.   Exterior lights should only be left on if they are equipped with dusk to dawn timers or motion sensors.  Note: exterior lights left on through the day can be a sign that no one is home.
  • VEHICLES:  Place your vehicles inside the garage. Ask a neighbor to use your driveway or park in front of your house. ALWAYS REMOVE VALUABLES & LOCK the vehicle.
  • DELIVERIES:  DO NOT schedule deliveries while you are gone.  Friends may not pick up package timely.
  • PETS:  Make a plan for the care of your pets using a service or a friend. ENTER Pet services into your GATEHOUSE account. Make sure your dog or cat has updated ID tags with good contact information. In the event your pet gets out, they can be traced back to you.
  • NOTIFY NEIGHBORS: Introduce yourself to your neighbor(s) and let them know you will be gone.  They are the closest set of eyes to your home’s safety.
  • EMERGENCY CONTACT:  Some homeowners want to be notified in the unlikely event of an emergency.  This is completely understandable, but it’s always a good idea to have a point of contact that is close by.
